KARACHI, March 22: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Labour Division, convention demanded immediate reinstatement of 2,300 sacked workers of Habib Bank Limited.

The convention, participated by MQM labour activists from all parts of the country, was held at a local hotel on Wednesday. They strongly condemned the retrenchment of HBL employees.

Furqan Tayyab, Islamuddin and other labour leaders strongly condemned the retrenchment of workers. They said that their party was not against privatization, but, they were against the sacking of workers from their jobs.

They said that retrenchment of 2,300 HBL workers was not an issue of 2,300 individuals alone, but a matter of economic survival of 2,300 families. They said that they would continue to raise voice over this issue till all the sacked workers were reinstated.

Foundation day: The MQM will organize a ceremony at its International Secretariat in London on Friday to celebrate the party’s 22nd foundation day (Yaum-i-Tasees), according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain will address the gathering.

Besides members of the MQM Coordination Committee, party MNAs, MPAs and supporters from London, Birmingham, and other parts of Europe will attend the programme.——PPI / APP
