Second career win for Shahid

LAHORE, March 19: Shahid Javed Khan with three-day aggregate 11-under-par-205 annexed the All-Pakistan golf trophy, his second career’s win as professional, at the Lahore Gymkhana course on Sunday. Shahid, remained on the leaderboard on all the three-day but his best card of 65 on the second day.

Shahid, who turned professional a couple of years ago, earned the first title last month in Faisalabad.

On the first day, Shahid was at the top with Imdad Hussain, Matloob Ahmed and Yasaya Habib, before his second day’s performance helped him to remain at top alone.

On the third day, though Shahid’s card of two-under-par-70 was not encouraging one, specially when Shabbir had posed a threat by completing the last round with another outstanding card of seven-under-par-65 but only to fell one stroke behind to the leader.

Shahid lost strokes on the first and the second holes and did a double bogey on the final 18th as his tee shot went into the water.

He also lost stroke at the fourth. His birdies were on third, fifth, eighth, 11th, 12th, 13th and the 16th. Shahid pocketed Rs49,900.

Shabbir, who staged a brilliant comeback on last two days to finish runner-up with an aggregate 206.

Shabbir could have won the title, had he not lost two strokes on the fourth hole which was the only loss he suffered on Sunday.

His birdies came on the first, fifth, seventh, eight and four Consecutive ones the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th. M. Munir with two over-par 74 finished joint third with Matloob Ahmad having total aggregate of 210.

M. Safdar with aggregate 221 won the amateur event, followed by Wasim Rana (227) and Imran (231).

Mrs Tahira Nazir won the ladies’ gross event while Ms Jamila Jabbar was runner-up.
