Lahore rout DG Khan


ISLAMABAD, March 18: Lahore Colours led the goal-scoring spree during the opening day’s action in the National Hockey Championship (Islamabad Round) as four matches were decided and one team was awarded walkover at Nasir Bunda Stadium Stadium on Saturday.

Lahore Region (colours) whipped Dera Ismail Khan (DG Khan) Zone 14-1 in the day’s biggest victory. Zulfiqar led the way with four goals while other goal-getters were Ibrar, Shakil, Shafqat Rasool (two each), Suleman, Sajjad, Zamim and Abbas.

The lone goal for hapless Dera Ismail Khan was scored by Laiq.

In another match of the day, Sargodha overcame Mardan 4-0 with Shahid Bhatti (2) and Sajjad Shah and Salim Aamir on target.

Rawalpindi Region proved too good for Kohat in a 7-1 triumph— goals coming from Nauman Akhter (2), Muhammad Ali, Shiraz Akhter, Rana Rauf, Waqas Butt and Jamilur Rehman.

Gujranwala also showed their superiority in a 6-3 victory over Peshawar Region. For the winners, Ubaidur Rehman came up with two goals while getting one goal each were Muhammad Iqbal, Asad Nadeem, Usman Yousuf and Muhammad Afzal.

The scorers for Peshawar against Gujranwala were Yasir Islam, Rawaiz and Tariq Hussain.

Malakand Region were awarded walkover against Northern Areas.—APP
