KARACHI, March 18: Two-year-old bay colt, Dubawi, is fancied to steal limelight by capturing the feature event in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The colt, who landed the six furlongs AKD Nursery Cup on Dec 25 with Shahid Rehman in the saddle, would be making his appearance after a lapse of almost three months and start as our day’s best. He is owned by M. Shahrukh and trained by S. Ehtisham.

Dubawi is drawn in a pack of nine contenders in the seventh and concluding six furlongs event which is restricted for Pakistani horses in class V, div 1 and 11.

Posing him serious challenge in his bid to make a winning comeback, would be Kicking King and Haseena-e-Arab.

A programme of seven races has been chalked out for the day. The first race begins at 1.00pm.

Zulfiqar Qureshi’s eight-year-old Jaguar is poised to make it two in a row by picking up the five furlongs opener. Trained by Sher Mohammad, he was ridden home by Mohammad Essa by a margin of seven lengths last week.

Seven-year-old bay mare Royal Beauty and chestnut mare Taneez are expected to retain their last Sunday’s placings.

Syed Ali Gohar Shah’s five-year-old bay horse Canon Ball should make amends by winning the next race. After sprinting to victory on Jan 25 ridden by Sheraz Ahmed, he has failed to finish on the podium. He should be chased by Raat Ki Rani and Auzy for places.

Owned and trained by S. Ehtisham H. Rizvi, six-year-old mare Eager Saint who has been on the forefront is poised to pick up spoils in the third race to maintain a clean slate.

Al Zarrar and Baba Jani should settle for places in the field of 18 aspirants.

The fourth race should see Desperado repeating his last winning feat to make it two in a row. It was after consistent failures that he was smartly ridden home by Zaki Zakir on March 1.

He should be followed by Silent Love and Lucky View for the places.

Filly Eswarah who was among those who also featured in the last meeting, should make amends by grabbing the fifth race. However, if tried by connections, The Conqueror’s can upset the applecart.

The sixth race should end in a blaze of glory for Victory Symbol. Kicking King and Haseena-e-Arab enjoys edge over others for places.

Following is the field and our selection.
