Robber killed in ‘shootout’

GUJRANWALA, March 18: An alleged bandit was killed and another arrested following an ‘encounter’ with police at Ghakkhar town on Saturday. Reports said two outlaws snatched motorcycle from one Shahzad Ahmad of Nat Kalan village at gunpoint and were fleeing through the GT Road when a police party started chasing them.

The bandits allegedly opened fire on the police party after taking positions in nearby fields. The police responded the fire which hit one of the outlaws who managed to escape despite being injured, while the other, Zaigham, a resident of Nandipur, was arrested by the police.

Later, the injured outlaw was found dead in a field near Akhtar town. He was identified as Shahbaz of Alipur Chowk.

The police recovered the snatched motorcycle along with a pistol from their possession. The body was removed to local DHQ hospital for an autopsy. However, nobody turned up at the hospital to receive the body.
