KARACHI, March 17: Saeed Anwar lashed a superb 166 as Multan Tigers secured a convincing six-wicket victory over Peshawar Panthers in the Gold League fixture of the National One-day Regional cricket tournament at the UBL Sports Complex on Friday.
Saeed, a left-hander like his illustrious namesake who played for Pakistan, smashed 22 fours and one six in his 148-ball innings that set up the victory march.
Saeed, who began his assault on the Panthers bowling with four consecutive boundaries in Riaz Afridi’s second over, was eventually out when just four were required.
Asif Iqbal also played a fine hand with a 54-ball 50 and helped Saeed add 107 in 117 balls.
Earlier, the Panthers failed to take advantage of the splendid platform provided by Mohammad Fayyaz (61 off 82 balls, six fours and two sixes) and Riffatullah Mohmand (85 off 82 balls, nine fours). The pair shared a first-wicket stand of 128 in 138 deliveries. Off-spinner Murtaza Hussain bowled well to finish with four for 38.
