KARACHI, March 17: The City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, on Friday, directed officials of the city government information department to computerise the entire record of the defunct KDA’s land department so that genuine allottees do not suffer on account of bogus entries and acts of fraud.

He, however, cautioned the officials to ensure that only correct data was fed while computerising land records, or else all efforts aimed at computerising the system would prove a futile exercise.

The nazim was attending a briefing arranged by the city government’s EDO, Dr Aturdas Sanjanani, in the latter’s office.

Kamal said that with the computerisation of the KDA’s land record, not only would genuine allottees be saved from mental agonies, which they often faced in case of duplication of files, but incidences of malpractices would also decline considerably.

“How strange is it that when the entire world has become a global village, the records of the city government’s departments are still in disarray and being managed manually,” he said.

He said it was the need of the hour to not only computerise the record of the defunct KDA’s land department but also of all other public dealing departments of the city government so as to provide updated information to citizens.

He pointed out that the city government with a view to turning the city government into an e-government had already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Microsoft, which will soon start working on the project.

The IT department’s EDO told the nazim that although the record of the defunct KDA’s land department was computerised, the system had become victim of the famous Y2K problem.

He said the IT department with a view to restoring the defunct KDA’s land record would soon invite offers from engineers and IT firms for transferring data into the new computerised system.
