MUMBAI, March 15: Rahul Dravid is planning to mark his 100th Test by captaining India to a cricket series victory against England. Dravid will become sixth Indian to play a century of Tests when he leads the side at Mumbai on Saturday.

One of those appearances was for a World XI in an ICC Super Test against Australia last year, but he is still proud of reaching the milestone.

“I never thought starting out at Lord’s in 1996 that I’d be able to play as long as I have,” he said.

“To join a list of people, some of whom have been my heroes growing up and a couple of them whom I’ve had honour and privilege of playing so many of my Tests with, is a really special feeling.

“I’m really happy and hopefully it should be a good game of cricket.”

Other Indians to play in 100 or more Tests are legends Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sachin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble,

India only need a draw to take series after winning second Test at Mohali by nine wickets, a match in which Dravid contributed scores of 95 and 42 not out.

It was a performance which lifted him three places to third behind Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis in ICC Test batting rankings.—Agencies
