KARACHI, March 15: In spite of all hurdles, Pakistan has carried out significant development in almost every sector over the past 58 years. This was observed at a dialogue on subject, “58 years of Pakistan — losses and gains”, organized by the Karachi Club’s literary committee here on Tuesday.
The panellists at the programme included Chairman of the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneebur Rehman, former governor Lt-Gen (r) Moinuddin Haider, TV and film artist Samina Peerzada, eminent literary figure Sehar Ansari, Acting-president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Akbar Abdullah and Adviser to the Chief Minister Salahuudin Haider.
Most of the panellists were of the opinion that Pakistan had succeeded in establishing and maintaining its prestigious entity and identity in the comity of nations for which Pakistanis felt proud of being Pakistanis.
They pointed out that today’s Pakistan was far more developed than it was in 1947. They urged the countrymen to play their active role in achieving further progress and bring in more prosperity.
Gen Haider said: “Pakistan is an independent country and a separate homeland for every Pakistani, which is the most important for the nation.”
He said that after the Partition, thousands of people had to leave their relatives and properties in India, and they migrated to Pakistan to develop the country.
Mufti Muneebur Rehman said that instead of criticizing others, everyone should concentrate on his own performance because problems could only be resolved through collective efforts.
Sehar Ansari said that despite meagre resources at its disposal at the time of independence when there was just one university in the entire country, Pakistan attained significant progress towards an overall development.
Quoting the example Japan, which has paid active attention to its health and education sectors, he said Pakistan should regard it a role model.—APP
