ISLAMABAD, March 15: The Daewoo Corporation of South Korea is keen to operate CNG buses in Pakistan. This was stated by President of Daewoo Lee Jae Bying during a meeting with Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Amanullah Khan Jadoon here on Wednesday.

Welcoming the Daewoo president, the minister said that the government was providing a level-playing field to the investors in the oil and gas and the CNG sector in an investors-friendly and competitive environment.

He said that the government had offered an attractive package of incentives in the CNG Policy with zero per cent customs duty on the import of complete body unit of buses and Daewoo could take advantage of these investments opportunities. The minister further said that the government would also welcome Korean investment in CNG technology.

He informed Mr Lee that the CNG sector had witnessed a tremendous growth during the last few years attracting an unprecedented amount of investment of Rs45 billion in Pakistan and this growth would continue in the days ahead.

Mr Jadoon said that Pakistan ranked number one in Asia and the third largest CNG user in the world. The minister regretted the unfortunate incident of Peshawar during the protests against the publication of blasphemous material in European newspapers in which Daewoo had also to suffer losses at the hands of the miscreants.

Expressing his firm resolve to continue operations in Pakistan the Daewoo president told the minister that Daewoo had resumed operations in Peshawar and said it would continue to invest for the mutual advantage resulting in the strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries.
