KARACHI, March 14: Alternative routes made in connection with three underpasses being constructed at the Nazimabad petrol pump, Liaquatabad No 10 and Gharibabad, have been carpeted and cleared from encroachments to facilitate the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.

According to the city government’s press release, the flow of vehicular traffic on all alternative routes had improved considerably following their widening and removal of encroachments.

Claiming that not a single complaint of traffic jam had been received from any of the alternative routes, a city government spokesman said that the City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, had paid four visits during the last 48 hours to the localities where underpasses were being constructed.

Besides, eight-hour long detailed discussions were held by the nazim with the CCPO, DIG (Traffic), DCO and EDOs of the works and services and transport departments.

He said a number of measures taken by the nazim in the light of his discussions with the officials concerned had resulted in improvement in the flow of traffic on the alternat ive routes. The steps taken to ensure smooth traffic flow included a ban on the entry of heavy vehicules into the city, carpeting and widening of alternative routes, removal of roadside encroachments and filling of ditches.
