CBR withdraws 2,000 appeals

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, March 14: The Central Board of Revenue has withdrawn 2,000 appeals of frivolous nature from the Supreme Court during the last two months. This was stated by CBR Chairman M. Abdullah Yousuf while talking to office-bearers of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).

An official announcement said that on the request of the CBR, the Supreme Court has constituted special benches to decide cases of the CBR.

The Supreme Court benches had so far disposed of 850 appeals, Mr Yousuf said, hoping the remaining would be decided shortly.

He reminded that in the last financial year, CBR had made special efforts to clear the pendency and resultantly about 60,000 income tax appeals and 20,000 adjudication cases were disposed of.

“Cleaning of pending appeals will help the CBR pay attention on other matters of prime importance,” the chairman added.

Commenting on the demand of bringing uniformity in valuation of goods at different dry ports, Mr Yousuf informed businessmen that the CBR had already introduced one-customs system and 14 dry ports of the country were connected with it.

“Valuation at any of these dry ports does not have any difference. We will introduce this system at other dry ports in near future,” he added.
