LAHORE, March 12: Fancied bay colt Namroud, owned by Usman Khawaja and ridden by jockey M. Hanif, won the Mohy-ud-Din Mohammad Alamgir Cup run over 1,200 metres at the Lahore Racecourse on Sunday.

The long striding son of Stranger In Paradise, Namroud trained by Haji Ghulam Sarwar beat Owais Dream by about two lengths with Queen Of Saba finishing third among seven starters.

Namroud’s victory gave jockey M. Hanif his third success of the day when earlier he had romped home on Royal Gambler and Late Arrival in the fourth and fifth race, respectively.

Later M. Hanif steered Shoaib Tariq owned colt Fajr to a surprise victory over favourite Fidel Castro to crown his fourth success of the day.

The leading stable of joint owners LRC steward Khawaja M. Arif and Shoaib Tariq crowned a big success and sent out four winners which included a hat trick. The winners were: Late Arrival, Namroud, Miss Photogenic and Fajr in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth race. All the four winners are trained by veteran trainer Haji Ghulam Sarwar, whose trained horses are putting up wonderful performance.

Yet another good performance came through the chestnut colt Royal Power in the fourth race, who completed a hat trick of wins on Sunday. Earlier he had won two races consecutively. The colt was ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman.

Four favourites in Royal Power, Late Arrival, Namroud and Miss Photogenic obliged the punters in a card of eight races decided in the afternoon. The other four events were lifted by long shots.
