KARACHI, March 12: Situation in Malir 15 area grew tense on Sunday when people took to the street in protest against the detention of a political activist.

Police said that a young man sustained bullet wounds and a car was set on fire near Malir 15 by unidentified people during the protest. The injured was identified as Akbar.

The protesters were demanding release of Saleem Baloch, Vice-President of the Jamhoori Watan Party and a leader of the Baloch Alliance, who was picked by unknown persons from Lyari on Friday morning.

Vehicular traffic on the main Sharea Faisal was disrupted for some time due to the violence.

MURDER: A young man, Mehmood Ali, 30, was shot dead outside his house in Block 15, F B Area on Sunday.

DSP Azizabad Ajaz Hashim said that at around 4pm, Mehmood received a phone call on his cell and he left his home. His family members heard sound of shots or firecrackers outside the house. His brother rushed out and found Mehmood lying on the ground.

Mehmood was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
