KARACHI, March 12: A total of 1,070 sailors were formally inducted into the Pakistan Navy during a passing out ceremony held at the PNS Himalaya, Manora, on Saturday. Commander Coast Rear Admiral Saleem Ahmed Meenai reviewed the parade.

Addressing the ceremony, Admiral Saleem said present-day warfare drew its genesis from nascent scientific developments. Naval warfare was especially becoming complex by the day and technological expertise played a pivotal role.

“The use of satellites and latest development in electronic and information technology has added new dimensions to it,” he added.

He urged the passing out sailors to be very receptive to latest technological developments and gain professional excellence to face new challenges.

Earlier, on arrival, Rear Admiral Meenai was presented the guard of honour. He reviewed the guard and appreciated its turn out.

The sailors also exhibited a colourful PT display, karate show and gymnastic show.

Commanding Officer PNS Himalaya Captain Tanzeem Akhtar Qadri highlighted the salient features of sailors’ training and underlined the measures taken and changes introduced to make it more effective and goal oriented.

Later, the chief guest gave away prizes to the winners.

Kashif Rafique received the Chief of the Naval Staff Trophy for his best overall performance. Commander Karachi Gold Medal for best tech UT was awarded to Nadeem Ashraf whereas Mazhar Hussain received the medal for best Non tech UT.

Awards for best academic and sportsman were given to Ahsan Ali and Asif Khan.

Ghulam Sarwar received special prize in sports for being the youngest athlete of Pakistan Navy to win the 10,000 meters race.

Proficiency banner for best overall performance was given to Tabuk Squadron.—APP
