KARACHI, March 11: Faisalabad Wolves encountered little problems in taming the Multan Tigers by 50 runs in the National One-day Regional Gold League cricket fixture at the UBL Sports Complex on Saturday.
Chasing 266, the Tigers looked like heading for a big defeat at 169 for seven in the 42nd over but Adnan Akmal batted with maturity to score a fighting 62 to take his side to 215 all out.
Adnan, who like his more celebrated brother Kamran, is a wicket-keeper/batsman, adorned his 54-ball innings with six fours and one six before he was last out.
The Tigers struggled once paceman Asad Ali accounted for left-handed openers Usman Tariq and Saeed Anwar.
And when Azhar Shafiq was run out after skipper Aamir Bashir refused to budge from the non-striker’s end, the Tigers’ hopes of upsetting the Wolves just faded away.
Mohammad Ali Niazi was only other batsman to offer resistance. He made 44 off 56 balls before off-spinner Saeed Ajmal trapped him in front.
Earlier, the Wolves reached 265 for seven with skipper Misbahul Haq hitting 65. The Pakistan reject’s 72-ball knock contained three boundaries.
Off-spinner Majid Majeed captured four for 44 in 10 overs, including Misbah who was smartly stumped by Adnan.
