Orchards being set up in N. Areas

Published March 12, 2006

GILGIT, March 11: The Northern Areas Agriculture Department will set up 99 fruit orchards and nurseries to encourage the local community to engage in profitable work.

The orchards are being established to enhance fruit production to improve the quality of life and increase agro-pastoral activities in rural areas, an official said.

He said that the department was bearing all the cost of setting up the orchards to encourage the local community to adapt scientific methods for maximizing production and incomes.

The official said tress and saplings being provided for the orchards were disease-free.
