KARACHI, March 10: An Anti-Terrorism Appellate (ATA) bench of Sindh High Court allowed an appeal filed by two brothers Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed against their conviction and sentence by an ATC-II for Karachi division. However, they were later detained for 30 days under MPO.
After hearing the sides and announcing it today, the bench held that prosecution had failed in proving the case and thus conviction and sentence awarded by the trial court are set aside.
However, the Central Jail authorities refused to release the brothers and said they would remain under detention for another 30 days under the Maintenance of Public Order.
The doctors’ lawyers termed their detention despite the court’s order for their acquittal contempt of court and said they would approach the high court against the illegal detention.
