NEW DELHI, March 10: India’s opposition Bharatiya Janata Party said on Friday it would raise in Parliament on Saturday the issue of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, whose petition against death penalty has been rejeced by Pakistan’s Supreme Court.

The BJP has also asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s govenrment to take up the matter with President Gen Pervez Musharraf and secure his release.

Expressing concern over the rejection of the review petition of Singh, BJP parliamentary party spokesman V. K. Malhotra told reporters that the party would raise the matter forcefully in parliament. “We have already given a notice to the speaker in this regard. We want the government to raise the issue with General Musharraf and secure his release immediately,” Mr Malhotra was quoted by Press trust of India as saying.

Sarbajit’s sister Dalbir Kaur is a member of BJP.
