KOHAT, March 10: A constable was killed in exchange of fire between police and a group of proclaimed offenders (POs) in Merozai area on Rawalpindi road on late Thursday night.

A police party headed by SHO PS Saddar Lal Fareed, on a tip off that POs Aziz ur Rehman and Abd ur Rehman, wanted in a murder case, would come from the tribal areas to attend the wedding party of their accomplice Dilfaraz, conducted a raid on the house of the groom at 11.30pm.

Sensing danger, the culprits opened fire on the police in which constable Bughadad Khan, a resident of Bannu, was killed.

The police retaliated and injured one Zahid who was late arrested. The POs and their half a dozen accomplices, however, took advantage of the darkness and managed to escape.

The deceased was buried in his ancestral town on Friday, a press release said.
