PESHAWAR, March 10: The provincial Election Commission has completed arrangements for by-elections to be held on Sunday for seven vacant seats of nazims and one naib nazim in various union councils in five districts of the NWFP.

Thirty-four candidates are in the run for the seats in Buner, Chitral and Karak and Lakki Marwat. The commission has set up 72 polling stations, says a press release issued here on Friday.

In Peshawar University Town there are five candidates for nazim’s seat and the number of registered voters is 9,073 — 5,374 men and 3,699 women. Eight polling stations and 32 booths have been set up in the council.

There are 12,316 voters in the union council of Yakatoot-II in Peshawar city. Four candidates are in the run and 12 polling stations and 32 polling booths have been set up.

In Karak, there are three candidates for the post of nazim of Takht-i-Nasrati union council. Eleven polling stations and 32 polling booths have been set up for 10,525 voters, 5,628 men and 4897 women.

Four candidates are in the field for the seat of nazim of the Ghandi Khankhel union council in Lakki Marwat. Five polling stations and 14 polling booths have been set up. There are 4,368 voters on the roll.

In Karrappa and Nawagai union council in Buner district, ther are 9,014 and 10,220 voters respectively. There are four candidates in both the councils for the nazim’s post. Nine polling stations and 31 polling booths have been set up In Karapa and 10 stations and 38 booths in Nawagai.

In the Danyan union council of Chitral there are three candidates for the naib nazim’s seat. The election commission has set up nine polling stations and 24 booths for 6,851 voters. In the Mastooj, seven candidates are contesting for the nazim’s seat. There are 6,495 voters, for whom nine polling stations and 24 booths have been set up.—APP
