MINGORA, March 9: Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has said that the government is committed to flushing out terrorists from the country. “We will not allow terrorists to use the country’s soil for nefarious activities,” he said at the inauguration ceremony of National Database and Registration Authority’s swift registration centre in Kalam on Wednesday.
“Interference from the Afghan side is not only taking place in Waziristan, but also in Balochistan,” he said, adding that the government was taking every possible step to ensure the safety and security of people.
The minister said that the NWFP government would receive a Rs11.5 billion grant under the National Finance Commission award, which was sufficient to remove the backwardness of the province.
He said that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal had been given a huge mandate by people but it could neither initiate any welfare and development project nor enforce the Islamic system during its three-year rule in the province.
Mr Sherpao said the government had launched the Malakand Rural Development Project for uplift schemes in rural areas.
The minister said a post office, a television booster and a digital telephone exchange would be set up in Kalam.
He said recruitment for two platoons of the Frontier Constabulary would start soon.
