QUETTA, March 9: Two persons, including an 11-year-old boy, were killed and 9 others injured on Thursday when landmines planted by tribal militants exploded in Sui and Nasirabad districts.

“The injured include two personnel of the Frontier Corps and a police head constable,” officials said. They also said that rockets were fired at different check-posts manned by security forces in the Dera Bugti district and Kahan area.

According to sources, a civilian pick-up was blown up when it struck a landmine in Deenari Pat area of Sui tehsil. One of the occupants, Saifuddin, was killed on the spot and seven others injured.

Eleven-year-old Mohammad Tariq was killed in another landmine blast in Jano Beri area of Sui district. Tariq was returning home from a trip when the landmine exploded at a roadside.

Sources said that two personnel of Frontier Corps were seriously injured when their official vehicle hit a landmine in Chatar area of Nasirabad district. The vehicle was badly damaged in the blast. Both the injured men were rushed to a hospital in Quetta by helicopter, sources said.

GRENADE ATTACK: A police head constable and his 8-year-old daughter were injured in a hand-grenade attack in Quetta on Thursday night. According to police sources, assailants hurled a hand-grenade into the house of police head constable Nasir Ahmed in the Mano Jan road area.

Soon after the explosion police officials rushed to the blast site and brought the injured policeman and his daughter to the Civil Hospital. A case has been registered against the unknown attackers.

Meanwhile, at least 16 rockets were fired at the FC check-posts in Sui, Dera Bugti and Kahan areas. Sources said that armed tribesmen fired seven rockets in the Sui area and another three in Dera Bugti. However, none of the rockets hit their target.

Six rockets were fired at FC check-posts in Kahan area but no one was reported hurt in the attack.
