Govt failed to protect Sindh’s rights: PPP: NFC award
Bureau Report
HYDERABAD, March 9: The leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, has said the government has failed to protect rights of Sindh with regard to the NFC award.
He was talking to party workers and journalists in Tando Mohammad Khan on Wednesday.
Accusing the federal government of victimizing opposition leaders, he claimed that foreign courts had exonerated Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto in all cases but she was still facing cases in Pakistan.
He said that despite rigging by the Sindh government in the Senate election, the opposition had won many seats.
He said political situation had become complicated in the country and the centre had failed to resolve contentious issues.
The PPP leader claimed that the Sindh chief minister had not taken a firm stand on the Kalabagh dam issue and he had strengthened the federal government’s stand by supporting construction of other dams. He said people of Sindh were opposed to construction of any dam on the River Indus.
About opening of the Khokhrapar-Munabao route, he said the government should have looked into reservations of people before opening the route, adding that illegal entry of outsiders was harmful not just for Sindh but for the whole country.
Mr Khuhro said issues of Balochistan and Waziristan should be resolved through talks and not through army operation.
He said Ms Bhutto would return to the country before the general election and added that no one could stop her from becoming the prime minister for the third time.
Answering a question, he said his party had given no formula nor had it entered into any deal to join the Sindh government, adding that changes were expected in the entire country.
Syed Mohsin Shah Bukhari, Dr Sikandar Mehndro and other party leaders were also present.
ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOLS: The district administration has decided to convert 10 schools into English medium schools from new admission year.
The decision in this connection was taken at a meeting of the district education committee on Wednesday.
District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil presided over the meeting.
The nazim said that children getting education in private schools were far ahead than those of government schools despite the fact private schools pay less salary to their teachers.
He said that there was a target of converting 100 schools into English medium so that quality education might be provided to poor students who could not afford higher fees of private schools.
He said that the government had allocated maximum budget for the education sector and wanted to improve educational standard.
The nazim said that the Sindh government had lifted the ban on new appointments and very soon recruitment would be made according to new policy.
He directed the EDO education that training of teachers should be strictly on seniority and on the basis merit.
Mr Jamil directed members of the committee to pay surprise visits to check educational institutions, colleges and schools.
The EDO education told the meeting about the performance and working of the department.
