KARACHI: City govt is being helped in uplift work: Ibad

KARACHI, March 8: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan said on Wednesday that the federal and provincial governments are extending all possible cooperation for development activities in Sindh.

Besides provision of funds, assistance is also being provided in capacity building.

The governor paid a three-hour long visit to various city areas on Tuesday night and had an appraisal about progress achieved in respect of various development schemes and cleanliness and sanitary arrangements.

During the visit, the governor was accompanied by City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, DCO Fazlur Rehman, DIG Traffic Falak Khurshid and other officials.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor nullified the impression that the Sindh government had stopped funds for ongoing schemes in Karachi.

He said work on development schemes was progressing fast and the city government had no problem in funds availability.

He pointed out that some time a little delay does occur because of technical reasons, but the city government has been released funds.

Replying to questions about the difficulties being faced by people due to simultaneous start of work on a number of projects, the governor pointed out that people would have a realization about their benefits after the completion of these projects.

He said the city government had taken up all the projects at the same time which is a big challenge and work on them is going on rapidly.

Dr Ishratul Ibad said the contractors failing to complete the work on time would be black-listed while those completing the projects on time would be rewarded.

He visited Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s Mazar, Beach View Park, Jehangir Kothari Parade, Bagh Ibne Qasim and Empress Market late in the night and said the city government had taken various steps for renovation of the Mazar of Abdullah Shah Ghazi and increased facilities for devotees.

The governor asked the authorities to coordinate with the Auqaf department and ensure security arrangements.

Directives were also issued for separate washrooms for male and female visitors and better access to Mazar for women. He asked the DIG Traffic to take steps for smooth traffic flow on the road in front of the shrine. On the occasion, the governor and City Nazim offered Fateha at the Mazar and laid a wreath.

During visit to Beach Park, the nazim informed the governor that recreational programmes are under consideration at weekends here.

The governor called for participation of Lok artists in these programmes. He stressed on continuity of measures to keep the park clean and beautiful. While visiting the Empress Market, the governor called for reviving the structural beauty of the building. He called for better arrangements for public movement and facilities on the pattern of food street.—APP

Ulema meeting: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has said that along with the efforts for “Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen”, steps would also be taken for inter-religion harmony and hoped that the Ulema of all schools of thought would play their role.

He was addressing a meeting held at Governor’s House which was attended by Ulema belonging to various schools of thought. State Minister Dr Aamer Liaquat was also present.

In the meeting, progress made towards establishment of an Ulema council was also reviewed.

Dr Aamer Liaquat informed that the line of action and regulations have been worked out and would be submitted to governor, along with the opinion of the Ulema.

The governor said that constitution of the council would be given legal cover so that it could perform its functions with authority.

The Ulema appreciated the decision about establishment of the council and giving it a legal status.

They observed that many times in the past, peace committees and Ulema committees used to be set up but they never proved useful because they lacked legal support and authority.

The Ulema appreciated the thoughts and the stand taken by President Pervez Musharraf on the issue of Namoos-i-Rasalat and hoped that it would help in devising laws at the international level.

The meeting was attended by Shah Turab-ul-Huq Qadri, Allama Abbas Kumeli, Haji Hanif Tayyab, Maulana Hafiz Mohammed Salafi, Maulana Yakub Atari, Mufti Mohammed Ameen, Maulana Yusuf Qasuri and others.—APP
