SUKKUR: Two women killed

SUKKUR, March 8: Two women were killed by their relatives, one on late Tuesday night and the other on Wednesday.

Najma, wife of Chakar Bakhrani, 20, was strangulated to death in Qureshi Goth by her husband and his brothers, who claimed she was a ‘kari’ and had illicit relations with their cousin Khuda Bux.

The accused fled after the crime. Abdul Latif, uncle of the deceased woman, registered an FIR at Site police station against the accused, but no arrest was made till the filing of this report.

The other incident which took place in Mando Dero village near Sukkur on Tuesday night, Karim Dino alias Laloo attacked his mother Hurmat, 35, with a brick over some trivial dispute and killed her.

The accused fled from the scene. Later, police arrested Karim Dino and locked him up. Relatives of the accused clai-med he was mentally retarded.

HUNGER STRIKE: A hunger strike by farmers against unavailability of water to lands at the tail-end of a dozen branches originating from Faiz canal and construction of illegal watercourses entered its second day on Wednesday in front of the Sukkur Press Club.

The growers belong to Thari Mir Wah, Faiz Ganj and Sobhodero. Shahzad Khan Bhagat leads their strike, which he said would continue until all the illegally constructed watercourses were demolished, and water was supplied to tail-enders.

The growers who had drawn solidarity from leaders of various political and religious parties said they would not bend to any pressure exerted by irrigation authorities.
