Investment in textiles sought

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, March 8: Textile Industry Minister Mushtaq Ali Cheema has urged overseas Pakistanis to invest in the textile sector of the country. He was talking to a 20-member delegation of overseas businessmen, led by UK-based businessman Mohammad Arshad, here on Wednesday.

An official announcement said the delegation arrived in Pakistan to attend the Textile Asia 2006 International Exhibition and Conference being held at the Karachi Expo Centre from March 18 to 21.

The minister said Pakistan’s textile manufacturers were working for upgrading their existing plans. “They are interested in purchasing modern machineries and equipment. The textile exhibition will play an important role in this regard,” he added.

Mr Cheema urged the delegation to work for the market access of textile products, as Pakistan was producing quality textile products, and in marketing of these products, efforts of Pakistanis abroad could play an important role.

He said various development works had been executed in the textile sector with the cooperation of international business community and investors, as there existed an ample opportunity in the textile industry.
