SWABI, March 4: Specialists in the education sector said on Saturday that effective coordination and meaningful interaction between parents and teachers was essential for children’s education and would ultimately help secure the country’s future.

“Teachers and parents must be jointly involved in children’s education,” said Dr Abdullah Sadiq, the rector of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology.

“Good character doesn’t just happen and it is up to teachers and parents to lay a solid foundation for character development of children by acting as role models,” he said.

Dr Sadiq was speaking at a “Parents Day” function at the GIKI School on Saturday. The programme lasted more than three hours and was divided into various segments.

“It is an effective way to get them (parents) involved in imparting of quality education to the youngsters”, said one of the parents. “Only education develops character based on core virtues that are good for the individual and good for society”.

A teacher observed that no one could replace the love and nurturing of committed parents which was essential for children’s well-being.

The rector gave away trophies to the outstanding students.
