MIRPURKHAS: Umerkot to achieve target by June: Watercourses lining

MIRPURKHAS, March 4: The District Coordination Officer, Umerkot, Mushtaq Ahmed Shaikh, has said that target of lining of 162 watercourses would be achieved till June 2006 under National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses.

He was presiding over a meting here on Saturday.

The meeting was informed that lining of six watercourses has, so far, been completed. The meeting was told that 28 applications of growers were received for lining.

The DCO directed the officers to contact the growers and landlords and apprise them pf benefits of project so that they could be persuaded for lining of water courses.

THALASSAEMIA: The District Secretary of Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Mirpurkhas, Ahmed Saeed Qaimkhani has said that first Thalassaemia hospital would start working under the society’s supervision after some time.

He added that the district nazim Dr Sughra Junejo and the president of the society, Khursheed Naeem Malik, were supporting the project.

In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that work on construction of hospital continued and expressed the hope that in future patients of Thalassaemia would get proper treatment.

BANDIT HELD: The Satellite Town police raided Walkart area and apprehended some suspects following a robbery in a general store in scheme No. 2, Satellite Town, late on Thursday night.

Two armed persons reached Shoaib General store and looted mobile of Rs20,000, cash Rs19,200 and a cell phone at gun point and escaped.

The owner of the store identified one of the bandits as Saeed Baloch alias Liloo as and lodged a non-cognizable report with the Satellite Town police.

Police raided the house of accused in Walkart area and nabbed suspects.

Gynaecologist suspended: Dr Farzana Rizwan, a gynaecologist of the Civil Hospital, Mirpurkhas, was suspended by the health department following a childbirth in the lawn of hospital a few days back and subsequent death of newly-born baby boy.

Her suspension was ordered after the inquiry committee found her guilty of negligence.

The committee was headed by Dr Akhlaque Ahmed Khan, Civil Surgeon, Mirpurkhas.

A few days back a woman, Ms Noor was brought to the gynaecology ward of the hospital where Dr Farzana Rizwan examined her and suggested her shifting to Hyderabad due to her precarious condition.

After some time, she gave birth to a child who later died. Now the woman has been shifted to Karachi as her condition further deteriorated.

The EDO health ordered inquiry into the matter.

PPP MEETING: A meeting of PPP workers and office bearers of Mirpurkhas, including its other wings, was held on Sunday which was presided over by Haji Chuttal Wassan.

The meeting was told that PPP district president Haji Noor Hassan Chandio, deputy general secretary Jehangir Mughal, district information secretary Akbar Panwhar, city president Malik Yasin Ghori and Ishaque Narejo had violated party discipline and demanded of Sindh PPP chief Syed Qaim Ali Shah to suspend them and appoint an inquiry committee against them.
