KARACHI, March 2: The Sindh Local Government Adviser, Wasim Akhtar, on Thursday said that the local government institutions were being strengthened and made dynamic through suitable amendments in the Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO).

Speaking as chairman at the 31st meeting of the Sindh Local Government Commission, Wasim Akhtar said a transparent inquiry into various matters was also being conducted.

The adviser directed concerned authorities to redress complaints by conducting transparent and immediate inquiries through inspection teams.

Mr Akhtar issued the directives for an early formulation of the rules of business with regard to improving performance.

The adviser, however, expressed satisfaction over the commission’s performance and that of other local government institutions and asked the concerned officials to hold meetings on the first Thursday of every month.

The commission’s members were asked to cover maximum matters in every meeting.

The meeting decided to recommend to the DCO Karachi and EDO Revenue to take departmental action against Zahid Amin, Assistant Director Land of the city government, on proved charges of illegal allotment of land.

It further decided to dispose of the case regarding increasing quota allocated to the former Khairpur district government by the Citizen Community Board from 25 to 40 per cent.

The Sindh adviser issued special instructions to the commission’s members to lay emphasis on improving the living standards of the masses by immediate removal of the difficulties faced by them.

Sindh Local Government Secretary Ishaq Lashari, Additional Secretary Ghulam Arif, SLGC DG Iqbal Ehsan Zaidi, members Munawwar Abbasi, Hamiuzzafar, Abdul Hafiz Soomro and others attended the meeting.—PPI
