ISLAMABAD, March 1: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) convenor and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League chairman Mohammad Farooq Rehmani has called upon the US President George W. Bush to raise the question of serious human rights abuses by Indian troops in Jammu and Kashmir during his talks with Indian leadership.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, he hoped that the US president would ask India to repeal all draconian laws which were contrary to the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and obstructed the process of a peaceful, impartial and tripartite solution to the Kashmir dispute.

“To find out an acceptable and durable solution to Kashmir issue, America’s role is of paramount importance because it has been a strong supporter of the right to self determination for the Kashmiris and the Security Council resolutions, and now has equal and close friendly relations with both India and Pakistan.”
