KARACHI, March 1: Sonia, 11-year-old bay mare, delighted the racing fraternity by repeating her winning feat in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.
With jockey Abdul Rahim aboard, she sprinted to victory in the opener edging out four-year-old colt Fascinate by five lengths.
Though Sonia improved her winning margin by two lengths, she failed to better her previous timings by crossing the finishing post in 1 min 6 2/5 seconds. She had clocked 1 min 5 3/5 seconds for same distance in the last meeting.
Filly Bright And Early settled for third while wander On Yonder completed the frame.
With a good lad up, four-year-old colt Victory Symbol finally had his day by picking up spoils in the second event. With experienced jockey Riaz Mohammad in the saddle the colt was home by three lengths to the delight of punters.
Baba Jani, a four-year-old bay colt, was placed second while mare Sweet Grandy finished third.
Riding boy Zaki Zakir was the pick of the day among riders by returning with a splendid double.
After piloting Desperado to victory in the third race by two lengths, he completed the feat by sprinting Al Jarrar to triumph in the fifth to present its owner Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara a winner. Both the victorious horses were trained by Sher Mohammad.
Nine-year-old bay horse Auzy continued his winning spree grabbing the fourth race. Finishing two and a half length behind was mare Silent Love while Tom Cruise had to be content with third place.
The six furlong concluding event fought neck-and neck between the top three contenders ended in a blaze of glory for bay horse Al Faris who defeated Blue Breeze by one and a half length. Moon Raker occupied third place.
The next race will be held on 12th.

KRC delegation
A KRC delegation is scheduled to leave for Lahore on Friday for the Pakistan Derby being held there on March 5. Administrator of the KRC, Fakir Syed Aitzaz Uddin, would lead the team of officials which among others include secretary, Syed Ayaz Hussain Shah Rashdi.
A large number of riders and owners are also scheduled to travel to Lahore.
