Snooker: Top seed Irfan struggles


KARACHI, March 1: Top seed Irfan Rasheed Khan was given testing time on Wednesday by Asif Motiwala before carving his third win in the 14th Sindh Cup snooker at the Snooker Zone Club.

Irfan lost the opening frame mainly because of fine break 69 by Asif. But Irfan took next two frame to gain 2-1 advantage.

However gritty Asif showed his fighting qualities by grabbing the next frame to set a great finish. But experienced Irfan sealed the fate of the match by pocketing the deciding fifth frame to emerge 3-2 winner.

Kamran Razzaq, Bilal Ahmed and Hanif Raja came from behind to clinch victories.

Lanky Kamran dropped the opening frame before overpowering Masood Ahmed 3-2. Similarly Hanif also lost the first frame before out-potting Muhammad Riaz 3-2.

Eight top cueists will qualify for the forthcoming national snooker championship schedule to be held in Lahore from March 20.
