Dacoits on the rampage

GUJRANWALA, March 1: Dacoits looted a house, a passer-by and took away a car in three strikes in and around the city here on Wednesday.

Reports said three outlaws forced their entry into the house of Akhter in Canal Park, held hostage the inmates and made off with cash worth Rs15,000, 23-tola gold jewellery and other valuables.

Three robbers deprived Rana Feryad of cash Rs30,000 and his motorcycle on GT Road near Atawa. Humayun was deprived of his car in Civil Lines.

THREE GET DEATH: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 on Wednesday handed down death sentence on three counts with a fine of Rs750,000 collectively to five convicts for killing three constables during an encounter.

The court also awarded 12-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs60,000 each to all the convicts.

According to the prosecution, convicts Humayun, Imran, Nadim, Asad and Asif had killed head constable Mahmood Ahmad and constables Muhammad Akram and Muhammad Afzal and injured SI Muhammad Anwer and constables Mahboob, Imran and others during the encounter in Hajipura on March 29, 2003.
