ISLAMABAD, March 1: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday donated 4,517 more all-weather tents for the quake survivors and reiterated its commitment to stand by Pakistan in the hour of trial.

Speaking at a handover ceremony here, Saudi ambassador Ali Awadh Asseri said that this was part of the continuing efforts by the Saudi Relief Mission in Pakistan to extend all possible help and assistance to those affected by the quake.

About the 40-bed state-of-the-art field hospital being operated by the Saudi Relief Mission in Pakistan, he said the hospital had so far treated over 82,000 patients.

Doctors conducted around 500 major and minor operations, while 13,000 tests were performed at the hospital’s laboratory. All this care is being provided free of cost which has been made possible through the help provided by the Saudi government.

Mr Asseri said that the hospital would continue its operations as long as needed. He said since the quake hit Pakistan on October 8, 2005, hundreds of thousands of blankets, tents, sleeping bags as well as electricity generators had so far been distributed among the quake survivors.
