KARACHI, March 1: Around 50 teachers of from various intermediate colleges on Wednesday observed token hunger strike on Wednesday on the call of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) against the publication of blasphemous caricatures in European press and the bloodshed of Muslims in Iraq, Nigeria and other countries.

SPLA office-bearers Prof Manzoor Hussain Chishti, Prof Mirza Athar Hussain, Prof Mohsin Raza Bhatti and Prof Iftikhar Azmi were among the 50 members of the association who observed the fast at the D.J. Science College.

The protesters were carrying placards inscribed with slogans condemning the blasphemous act and bloodshed, as well as the demands for an end to violence and conspiracies against the Islamic world.

Banners with demands for declaring blasphemy an international offence a complete withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq and Afghanistan were also displayed at the protesters’ camp, where teachers from different schools, colleges and universities had assembled to express solidarity with the SPLA on the issue.—PPI
