RAWALPINDI, Feb 28: District Coordination Officer Hamid Ali Khan here on Tuesday said the district administration had started the registering all poultry farms to detect and eliminate the bird flu virus.
“Teams have been constituted for the checking of bird flu and so far no case has been detected in the district,” he said at a meeting called to review the situation following the detection of avian flu virus in Charsadda and Abbottabad.
The meeting was attended by executive district officer agriculture, district officers poultry, livestock, health, deputy district officer revenue and representatives of Pakistan Poultry Association.
The meeting was informed that during the campaign about 2,000 poultry farms had been registered and as many as 30 teams were collecting samples from all the poultry farms in the area and sending them to the poultry research laboratory on a daily basis.
He said samples had also been sent to the National Veterinary Laboratory, Islamabad.
He asked the poultry farms owners, retailers, sellers and the public to cooperate with the poultry staff and in case of any bird flu virus, report to the Poultry Research Institute, Murree Road.
