KARACHI, Feb 28: An anti-terrorism court once again issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of a grandson of Nawab Akbar Bugti in the PIDC House bomb blast case on Tuesday.
Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-3 ordered the police to arrest Barham Dakh, the grandson of the Baloch leader, and Abdul Jabbar, who were shown absconding accused in the case. Mangla Khan and Aziz Khan are the arrested accused in the case.
The judge, who is conducting the trial inside the Central Prison, fixed March 6 for the next hearing.
Three people were killed and 21 others injured when a powerful car bomb exploded in front of the PIDC House here on Nov 15, 2005. The bomb went off around 8:40am, causing extensive damage to a fast-food outlet, bank branches on the ground floor and offices on upper floors.
At least seven vehicles were destroyed and eight others were damaged. The windows of adjoining buildings, including a five-star hotel and Dawood Centre, were shattered.
The KFC outlet and the adjacent Muslim Commercial Bank branch were destroyed while branches of three other banks were damaged. Most of the floors of the PIDC House are occupied by the Pakistan Petroleum Limited.
Two security guards, Sabz Ali and Iftikhar Ahmad, on duty at the MCB branch, were killed on the spot. An injured, Jawed Iqbal, died at the hospital.
VAN ATTACK CASE: An anti-terrorism court again deferred on Tuesday the judgment in the rangers van attack case against two workers of the banned Jundullah as the jail authorities did not produce the accused in the court due to security reasons.
Judge Feroze Mehmood Bhatti of ATC-2 had earlier on Feb 28 deferred the judgment due to the non-production of accused Ataur Rehman and Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa, who along with nine other Jundullah activists were condemned to death on Feb 21 in the corps commander convoy attack case.
The jail authorities placed on record a letter written by the jail superintendent to the prison chief stating that the two accused had been convicted and that they could not be taken out of prison due to security reasons.
Ata and Bajwa have been prosecuted for attacking the rangers’ mobile van on March 19, 2004 under Baloch Colon Bridge in Ferozabad police area. A ranger sepoy, Ishtiaq Hussain, and a passerby, Kashif, were killed and Havaldar Muhammad Muneer, Naik Mushtaq of the rangers and three passersby — Nawab, Maqbool and Maqsood — were injured in the incident.
