KARACHI, Feb 28: Sindh Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani on Monday suspended three lady doctors in the light of an inquiry report of Shahida Sultana’s case on account of their alleged criminal negligence in performing a surgery on her at the Liaquat Medical University Hospital, Hyderabad.
The suspended doctors included Dr Sadaf and Dr Aftab Begum from Civil Hospital Hyderabad and Dr Sunita, said an official statement.
It said that the Sindh Health Department would also recommend Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to cancel the registration of Dr Sunita.
Mr Qaimkhani said although Dr Nasreen Shah was present in the operation theatre, no action would be taken against her as she did not participate in the surgery and the inquiry report had also fixed no responsibility on her.
He said the health department would not hesitate in taking action against such negligent doctors in future.
Mr Qaimkhani directed to carry out Shahida Sultana’s medical treatment on government expenses, saying that her husband was a rickshaw driver and could not afford to bear heavy medical expenses.—APP
