KARACHI: Drive against encroachments

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 28: In a major anti-encroachment operation, New Karachi Town, on Tuesday, removed encroachments from a main road, starting from Godhra roundabout to Gabol Town, thus paving way for the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.

The operation was supervised by the Town Nazim, Mohammad Hanif Surti who was accompanied by the Town’s Naib Nazim, Shakeel-ur-Rehman, Town Officer (Infrastructure) Mohammad Raza Memon and DTO anti-encroachment Najeeb Shaikh.

Speaking on the occasion, the Town Nazim, deplored that flow of traffic on a number of roads of the Town was being hindered merely because the land mafia has not only occupied major portions of various busy roads but has also heavily occupied footpaths.

The illegal occupation of roads and footpaths, on the one hand, creates hindrance in the smooth flow of vehicular traffic and force pedestrians to walk on roads amid vehicular traffic and, on the other presents an ugly sight to passersby and creates impediments in carrying out development works, he added.

He said that Town municipal administration with a view to bringing an end to the menace of encroachment has already chalked out a comprehensive plan and it would be implemented shortly.

On this occasion, he also asked the SO (Traffic) to challan all those vehicles which are parked illegally on either side of the road from where encroachments had been removed on Tuesday.
