Ata in court

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Feb 27: Former Test bowler Ataur Rehman, who is facing a life ban, appeared before a Lahore High Court judge on Monday to get his ban lifted. One-man judicial commission of Malik Mohammad Qayyum has banned Ata and Salim Malik while conducting an inquiry in match fixing scandal.

The commission also prohibited the PCB to appoint Wasim Akram as captain of the team while imposing cash penalties on other cricketers in the same case.

The court fixed March 13 as next date for the hearing.

Ata had been acquitted by the PCB when he moved an application about three years ago.

The PCB official Zakir Khan heard Ata’s review petition and acquitted him. But the ICC had refused to accept the decision of Zakir with an objection that it was not a legally valid.
