Mumbai to host Davis Cup tie

KARACHI, Feb 27: The All-India Tennis Association (AITA) on Monday confirmed venue for the Davis Cup Asia-Ocenia Group tie between India and Pakistan. The matches would be played at the Cricket Club of India’s (CCI) Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai from April 7.

The decision was made after an AITA panel, including association’s secretary general Anil Khanna, visited the stadium and assessed its suitability to hold tennis matches.

Mr Khanna said that an AITA team would soon start groundwork for marking courts at the cricket ground.

The courts would be laid at the northern end of the ground.

Club’s premises of one side would be used as gallery and seating arrangements would be made temporarily on the remaining three sides of the ground.

India and Pakistan would be meeting for the sixth time in the cup’s history and for the first time since 1973 when they last played at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.—PPI
