Double success for Sunny

KARACHI, Feb 27: Upcoming Sunny Williams conjured up two victories in men’s and juniors U-17 singles to cruise into next round of the Rs175,000 Greener Pakistan National Hard Court tennis which got underway at the Karachi Gymkhana on Monday.

He chalked up triumphs in contrasting styles. After having a comfortable 6-0, 6-0 sailing over Ahmed Bharocha in men’s singles, he was stretched to limits by Rameez Khan in the juniors U-17 on way to register a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win.

Ten matches in men and six in juniors U-17 were decided on the opening day.

The tournament would be contested in men’s and women’s singles, juniors U-17 boys and girls singles, boys U-13 singles and men’s doubles.

Davis Cupper and holder Aqeel Khan and Sara Mahboob have been top seeded in men’s and women’s singles draw. Women’s singles defending champion Seher Khawaja has been seeded second.

Sara has 119 national ranking points as compared to Seher’s 37.

Top 16 players who have got first round bye in men’s singles will make their appearance in the second round on Tuesday.
