LJ activist arrested

VEHARI, Feb 27: A Lashkar-i-Jhangvi activist was arrested on Sunday night in Jallah Jeem Town, Mailsi. The Mailsi police have sent the arrested man to some unknown place.

Source said Muhammad Saleem of the banned LJ activists was wanted to police in a number of cases. However, police officials were not ready to disclose his arrest.

Meanwhile, the Vehari police released all local leaders and activists of various opposition parties, including the MMA and the ARD. Those released were: Rafiq Eng, Akram Rabbani, Haji Mukhtar, Mushtaq Ansari, Abid Sadiq, Haji Arshad Dogar, Arshad Mughal, Rizwan Nizami and Muhammad Jafar. They were arrested on Sunday to foil any attempt of taking out protest rallies throughout the district.

STRIKE: The revenue staff and officers continued strike on the fourth consecutive day over manhandling and torturing of DDO (revenue) Azfar Zia here on Monday.

Wearing black armsbands, the protesters demanded immediate arrest of the accused. While police have provided two guards for his protection during office hours.

DIES: A 40-year-old prisoner died due to cardiac arrest in the district jail here on Monday.

Muhammad Saleem of Haroonabad felt chest pain and died before getting any first aid. Shifted recently from the Multan district, he was serving a three-year imprisonment for crossing over the border. His body was sent to the DHQ Hospital for post-mortem while his family members were informed about his death.
