LARKANA, Feb 27: A group of Awam Dost nazims and members elected on special seats criticized the Larkana district government for its failure in constituting monitoring committees.
Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, they said that the district government was incomplete without monitoring committees. The deputy information secretary of the PPP Larkana district, Mashooque Jatoi, was present on the occasion.
They said the local government ordinance clearly indicate forming of different monitoring bodies to supervise devolved departments.
“But instead of calling regular sessions of the council the nazim and pro-PML-Q members were escaping to summon the session”, they said.
“Larkana is left at the mercy of criminals”, they said adding that the people of the city were being punished for supporting Benazir Bhutto.
They said they had submitted a requisition for meeting of the district council so that people’s problems could be tabled and discussed in the session.
It was height of ignorance that public safety commission has yet not been constituted.
They said the government had tarnished the image of country on the world level after indulging in what they called media trial campaign of Benazir Bhutto.
They predicated that the PML-Q would be cut to its size in the ensuing election in 2007.
Khair Mohammed Shaikh, Bakrat Awan, Yasin Bhutto, Nisar Bhutto, Yusuf Abro, Ali Gohar Bhatti, Barkat Shaikh (nazims), Touqeer Fatima Bhutto, Nasiba Channa, Lal Khatoon and Yasmin Shiakh (councillors of the district council) spoke on the occasion.
Yasir Junejo, Larkana taluka council nabi nazim and Saleem Soomro, president of the Youth Wing of the PPP Larkana district were also present in the conference.
