Durrani orders release of Rs13m for Mingora roads


PESHAWAR, Feb 27: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has directed release of Rs13 million for the repair and maintenance of Mingora city roads. He also directed the NHA to expedite the pace of work on N-45 from Nowshera to Dir. This road is presently in dilapidated shape causing hardships to the commuters.

The government, he said, had already approved new rates; therefore, there should be no delay in the construction work.

He was presiding over a meeting to review the status of ongoing projects in roads, communication, drinking water and services’ sectors, at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Peshawar, on Monday morning.

The chief minister also directed to release Rs50 million to clear the liabilities of the contractors for the emergency work during flood 2005.

He told the authorities concerned to release 50 per cent allocation for the rehabilitation of 10km Balogram Kanju road to Ningolai Swat, and improvement and widening of Matta to Fazal Banda, Baghdheri to Lalkoo, Barum Shahwar Gate Road Swat.

The roads would cost Rs10 million and the finance department would release Rs5 million to continue their construction work.

The repair and rehabilitation of the existing roads in district Mingora would cost Rs13.5 million, including Mingora internal roads ( Rs3 million), Saidu Marghuzar (Rs2.5 million), Jambel-Mingora road (Rs1 million), Kabal-Shah Dheri (Rs3 million), Malamjaba road (Rs2 million) and Fateh Pur to Mian Dam road (Rs2 million).

The chief minister in his remarks said his government was focussing on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of five quake-affected districts. Projects in these five districts would be fast track projects to help bring the survivors to normal life.

However, his government would also provide resources for projects damaged in the last snowfall and flood. He said that the resources spent on projects should be completed in time, as delay in the construction work would increase the cost of the projects.

He said the road communication in snow-covered areas and tourists’ potential areas would get priority.

The government would ensure that the rehabilitation of all roads was continue.

The chief minister said his government had raised the construction rates; therefore, there should be no slow work. It would also not compromise on the quality of construction work.

He said the ADP-funded projects would be completed within the stipulated period as the people representatives stood committed to these projects. These projects would not be dropped and the government would ensure the provision of resources for such projects, he said.

The chief minister also directed to check the quality of provincial highways. Rehabilitation and improvement of roads should be accelerated.

He directed the FHA to expedite work on Khawaza Khela Kalam road and re-design the Khawaza Khela Chowk. He said the government and the elected representatives would provide all help in this regard. The roads to Behrain should be carpeted by June. He directed to engage more labourers for the timely completion of the projects.

The chief minister directed al line department to repair roads soon after carrying out their development activity. Regarding widening of road from Chakdarran to Landaky and Mingora bypass, the chief minister sought a presentation.

He warned contractors against the delay in the completion of projects.

About the drinking water supply schemes, the chief minister directed the authorities concerned to provide resources for the ongoing plans.

He said minimum utilization of resources was an injustice to the people; therefore, the resources allocated for projects should be spent to ensure that these projects carried the elements of public benefit.

He said his government had already provided land for the construction of a cadet college in Swat. These projects, he expressed the hope, would change the outlook of district Swat.—Online
