ATTOCK, Feb 27: The closure of 15 kilometre stretch of Attock-Kamra Road from Teen Meela Chowk to Kamra Chowk for five long hours during the visit of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Kaleem Saadat and other VVIPs to the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), Kamra, caused a great deal of inconvenience to the people on Monday.

The purpose of the visit was to attend the inaugural ceremony of overhauling of C-130 aircraft propeller and signing of an agreement for manufacturing of Boeing components at the PAC.

The law-enforcement agencies fenced off the 15 kilometre stretch of Attock-Kamra Road hours before the arrival of the prime minister, chief of air staff and other dignitaries at the complex at around 8:30am.

The vehicular traffic bound for Rawalpindi, Kamra, Hattian, Hazro and other areas was diverted via Haji Shah Chowk to their destination due to which people had to cover a distance of over 30km besides paying extra fare.

Even the low-paid employees of the aeronautical complex had to cover a distance of 10km to reach the bus terminal. This miserable situation continued till the departure of prime minister at around 1:30pm.

Similarly, the parents told local journalists that all educational institutions including Shaheen Degree College, MRF College and boys and girls high schools were closed by the PAC administration.

UC nazim laid to rest: Thatta Union Council Nazim Sardar Amir Ameer Khan was laid to rest at a local graveyard in Thatta Basal village, Jand tehsil, on Monday.

Mr Khan had died on Sunday after suffering from cardiac arrest.

Sardar Amir belonged to a renowned political and military family. He was the son of Maj (retired) Sardar Ameer Khan, brother of Jand Tehsil Nazim Sardar Manzar Ameer and cousin of former Commandant, Staff College Quetta late Maj-Gen Javed Afzal Khan.
