MIRPUR, Feb 27: Visiting Mayor of Britain’s Hyewacomb city Chaudhry Liaquat Hussain has called for early and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiris.

“The much-delayed problem Kashmir has emerged in the world as the burning issue which is required to be peacefully resolved without further loss of time,” the British mayor of Kashmiri origin said while speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by the Kashmir Press Club here on Sunday night.

Highlighting the role of Britain-based Pakistani and Kashmiri expatriates in raising the Kashmir question at various forums in the world, Mr Liaquat said that being the unofficial ambassadors of their country, the expatriates were doing a good job to highlight the Kashmir cause for the sake of mustering maximum support of the external world for the achievement of Kashmiris legitimate right to self-determination.

Liaqat Hussain said Britain intended to extend maximum relief to earthquake hit areas of Pakistan and AJK.

He pointed out that financial relief of 50 million pounds had immediately been extended by Britain, besides the pledges of 17 million pounds, declared by the British minister for the quake-hit zone.—APP
