KARACHI: EPA asked to curb pollution

KARACHI, Feb 27: Muhammad Noman Saigal, adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Environment, Alternate Energy and Information Technology, has asked officials of the Environment Protection Agency to improve their performance and react more aggressively for pollution control and upgrading nature for the good of people.

Speaking at a meeting of EPA officials, the adviser expressed dissatisfaction over performance of the officials. He ordered the officials, especially those working in the interior of Sindh, to strictly monitor all the factories, transport and other machinery polluting air or water that result in health hazards.

He took serious note of the spread of various diseases in the localities around industries due to untreated industrial waste. The coastal communities of Karachi were constantly complaining about increase in health problems due to pollution. — APP
