KARACHI, Feb 27: The British deputy high commissioner in Karachi, Hamish St Clair Daniel, has praised the performance of the students from Pakistan in the General Certificate of Education and O and A level examinations.

He was speaking at the distribution of awards to the high achievers in 2005 at a ceremony on Monday.

It was pointed out that the British Council was the UK’s leading international organization for education and cultural relations.

Mr Daniel said he was pleased that in Karachi as well as in other parts of Pakistan there were some top students in the world.

In the June 2005 ‘O’ level examination there were 15 students who were declared top in the world.

Eleven of these who had attained this distinction in English Literature were:

Falak Jawed Ghori (St Jospeh’s Convent School), Saima Jafri (Convent of Jesus and Mary), Muhammad Hassan Yousuf (St Paul’s English High School), Marium Khawar Jamali (Foundation Public School), Murad Mustafa Khan, Syed Mohammad Raza Hussain, Zehra Moinuddin, Sarah Paracha, Fatema Abdullah, Anum Malkani (all Karachi Grammar School), Murtaza Ahmed Mirza (St Patrick’s High School), Aleena Tahir Yahya (City School), Syed Salah Ahmed (St Patrick’s), Mohammad Azeem Shaikh (City School), Schrezad Maher (St Joseph’s Convent).

Sonia Kazi of The City School remained top in the world in ‘A’ level examination in computing.

The diplomat gave away certificates to these students.
